ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson pilots will begin working with Russia next week in a multi-national, anti-terrorism training exercise.
The three-day training will focus on a simulated takeover of a commercial jetliner by terrorists.
U.S. fighter jets will shadow the jetliner as it makes its way east, then hand off the plane to Russian pilots.
Then, when the plane takes off from Khabarovsk and heads to Alaska, the process will be reversed.
U.S., Canadian and Russian airborne warning and control
aircraft, as well as refueling tankers, will also participate in the exercise.
This is the first time Russia and the U.S. have ever worked together in a live-flying exercise.
